Description
In 2021, BASE and Empa started the Your Virtual Cold Chain Assistant (Your VCCA) initiative, focusing on reducing post-harvest losses of fresh produce by enabling smallholder farmers to access sustainable cooling solutions. Your VCCA supports local technology providers that offer cold storage on a pay-per-use model to digitalise the operations at the cold rooms with a mobile application, Coldtivate, and capacity building activities. Digital twins developed by Empa and embedded in the Coldtivate app allow users of the service to monitor in real-time the state of preservation of their products stored in solar-powered cold rooms. Specific training will be provided to cold room operators, smallholder farmers, and prospective customers to ensure that the application is used correctly.
